In addition to parks that are a legacy of past centuries, Berlin has a wonderful place. This park is not a tourist Mecca, it is visited mostly by locals, especially if you consider that it is a non-prestigious slum of the GDR with panel ruins, located very far from the historical center. And this idyllic place is called "Garten der Welt", which means "Gardens of the World" in Russian. The park was opened in 1987 as a gift from gardeners for Berlin's 750th anniversary. In 1991, the development concept was slightly changed: themed gardens, playgrounds and recreation lawns were expanded. The garden covers an area of 21 hectares.

Visitors

Visitors are greeted by lush flower beds with varying plant varieties depending on the season. At the entrance, a very peculiar fountain rumbles, resembling industrial pipes, on top of which there are ornamental plants, as if blocking it: marigolds, nasturtiums, etc. The grains are grouped very effectively on the side. Here at the entrance there are many signs at once - in which direction to go to which garden. And so at almost every turn, which is extremely convenient - there is nothing to miss and wander around the park in the desired order.

Not far from the entrance there is a fairy tale garden, where small statues of fairy-tale characters of Andersen and the Grimm brothers are placed under the trees along the paths: the swineherd and Snow White, the naked king and Cinderella. Moreover, the figures are made in such a size that it is comfortable for children to consider them, considering their small size.

A lot of rhododendrons are planted under the trees, which makes the garden very beautiful in early May, when there is really no greenery.

Karl Forster

Next is the garden dedicated to Karl Forster, a famous breeder of perennial plants. Karl Forster is known for his weakness for giving poetic names to varieties of ornamental plants, many of which are now planted in the garden: May Queen, Five Finger Game, Winner's Rose aster, Village Joy phlox. About 100 years ago he not only bred new varieties in his garden in Potsdam, but also wrote books for flower growers.

Opened after renovation in 2008, the park demonstrates the contributions of German landscape designers to contemporary landscape architecture. Its feature is the presence of a large number of formal elements along with the natural landscape. A total of 14 fountains made of stone, clay and millstones develop the "water" theme. And all this hum under the rustle of surrounding bamboo and grass and framed by beautiful bushes.

A path lined with fragrant herbs leads to the herb garden. The herb garden itself is very reminiscent of the abbey's pharmacy garden from old engravings. Underneath each plant is a decorative plate with its name and family.

The labyrinth is incredibly made of yew fruit. Most of the confusing corridors end in dead ends, and you have to try hard to find an exit to the center with an observation deck. But after escaping to freedom, you feel a small victory of your own mind.

Opened in 2000, the Chinese garden is not only a recreation garden for the population, but also the beginning of the existence of a green building project in the "Gardens of the World" format. Examples of landscape art from all over the world are collected in a relatively small area. Moreover, almost every garden is a symbol of friendship with a country. The Chinese Garden covers an area of 2.7 hectares and is the largest in Europe. It emerged as a symbol of the partnership between Berlin and Beijing. Everything from the project to the building and stone details was brought from China, taking into account the requirements of Feng Shui. Even Chinese workers built this magnificence. So this is not a so-called, but a Chinese garden in accordance with all the rules of Feng Shui: the door faces the right direction, there are stones, hieroglyphs and gazebos in the right placesEven the goldfish in the pond water was actively moving its fins. The plants included bamboo, pine, willow, calicarp, cotoneaster, bergamo and Japanese anemone. All this splendor was inspired by a statue of Confucius with a carved quote about the benefits of gardens.

Japanese Flowing Water Garden

The Japanese Flowing Water Garden is a Berlin-Tokyo project. Japanese landscape architect Shunmyo Masuno designed a traditional Japanese garden with all the necessary elements, including a pavilion for tea ceremonies. It belongs to the general concept of gardens in the world, such as Chinese Garden, Korean Garden and Balinese Garden. The garden was opened in 2003. Japanese gardens are a place of silence and contemplation, “an open-air temple, and it is no coincidence that the author of the project is not only a designer, but also has a religious rank. The Japanese garden includes the main elements of a classic Japanese garden: stones, a dry waterfall, lanterns, a stream with a waterfall, a garden with a gazebo. From plants - of course Japanese maples, sakura, pines, ferns, chrysanthemums.

In addition to those listed above, there is a Korean or Seoul Garden. This aspect of park architecture is very rarely represented in botanical gardens and parks. In 2003, Mr. Lee Myung-bak, Mayor of Seoul, the capital of South Korea, visited Berlin upon the invitation of burgomaster. Opened in 2005, the Korean Garden is a generous gift from the city of Seoul. It covers an area of about 4000 square meters and is characterized by a variety of natural landscapes, rich ornamental decoration of all kinds of national courtyards and pavilionsThe main idea of \u200b\u200bthe creators is the garden as a place where people can find joy, inspiration and relaxation in nature. The design of the garden came from Korean architects in Seoul, the construction was done by Korean workers, and the decor elements were brought from Korea.

Balinese Garden

The Balinese Garden is very original, located in a greenhouse specially built for this. Like its predecessors - Chinese, Japanese, Korean gardens, it is also an original example of exotic gardening. This is an example of cooperation between the sister cities of Jakarta, Indonesia's capital, and Berlin. This garden is interesting for people who are interested not only in gardens but also in Indonesian culture in general. An important aspect of the Balinese philosophy of life is the search for harmony. Harmony is the ultimate goal in every aspect of life. A person should always be in harmony with himself, his environment - that is, nature and other people - and feel like a part of the entire Universe. Gods, humans and the environment must be in balance with each other. For this reason, the garden is called "Garden of Three Harmonies".

Shown here is a typical Balinese family house surrounded by nature, namely tropical plants. The traditional flora of that region is represented – orchids, ferns, palms, foods and spices.

The Arabian Garden was very reminiscent of the Spanish Alhambra. It was created in 2005, and a pavilion with decorative wood carvings and a fountain in the middle was added in 2007. The traditional entrance is under a cute arch. With glossy tiles and covering not only the floor, but also the walls. Along the perimeter, a rectangular courtyard bounded by a wall is diagonally cut by fountains and water pools. In the evenings, these fountains are beautifully illuminated with colorful lights. In the four resulting parts, fragrant plants are planted more or less symmetrically: geraniums, myrtle, narrow-leaved lavender, roses, lantana, magnolia; Instead of citrus, quince and medlar are planted, which hibernate more successfully in the European climate. Citrus fruits in tubs are arranged on the sides. This heavenly place is called the "Garden of the Four Elements".

Example

Another example of European garden art, the Italian Renaissance garden “Giardino della Bobolina” was opened on May 31, 2008. Visitors can enter the garden through large wrought iron gates via two stairs and the other from the porch. The garden is designed in the style of 16th-century Florentine gardens. The central part is a large fountain surrounded by a cut boxwood hedge, with paths extending from it. There are large tub plants, stone benches and Renaissance sculptures in terracotta pots.

Here's a quick overview of the park's main exhibits. This place is ideal for students in landscape construction: the main styles of landscape gardening are collected in a relatively small area, they contain all the basic elements of each direction. All exhibitions are original, not stylized projects of European designers. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you pay attention to this corner of Berlin. Author's photo
